2008 Women's Volleyball Schedule in PDF Format

SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University head women's volleyball coach Kip Yoshimura released the Bulldogs 2008 schedule Tuesday. The schedule is highlighted by four in-season tournaments, matches against three 2007 NCAA Tournament participants and four matches against first-time opponents.

For the second season in a row, the Bulldogs will begin play at the University of Montana Tournament. The tournament, which begins on Aug. 29, is the first of four in-season tournaments for the Zags. Gonzaga will match up with both Bradley University and Montana on the first day and will then play North Dakota State University and UC Riverside, a first-time opponent, on Aug. 30.

The Zags second tournament of the season is at the University of Washington, Sept. 4-5. Gonzaga, who also participated in the Husky Tournament in 2006 finishing with a 1-2 record, will face Washington, Portland State University and Boise State University in Seattle. Washington lost in the second round of the NCAA Tournament a season ago.

Before hosting the Gonzaga University Tournament Sept. 12-13, the Bulldogs will travel to in-state rival Washington State University Sept. 10. The Bulldogs last played the Cougars at WSU in 2005 and pulled out a 3-1 victory.

The Zags are hosting the Gonzaga University Tournament for the third-straight season. UTEP, who the Bulldogs last played in 2005, will be their first opponent on Sept. 12. GU will then play San Diego State University and Weber State University on Sept. 13.

Gonzaga will host the University of Idaho on Sept. 17 before traveling to Pittsburgh, Penn., for its fourth and final in-season tournament. The Bulldogs will partake in the University of Pittsburgh Tournament on Sept. 19-20. This is only the second time in school history the Bulldogs will play an in-season tournament on the East Coast. The last time GU played in the Eastern Time Zone was in 2005 when it participated in the Over the Mountain Invite in Boiling Springs, N.C. The Zags will face Pittsburgh and Virginia Commonwealth University, both first-time opponents, and Eastern Michigan University at the tournament.

West Coast Conference action opens with a two-match road trip that features the University of San Diego (Oct. 2) and the University of San Francisco (Oct. 4). Gonzaga will play a total of 14 WCC matches in 2008, including matches against Santa Clara University (Oct. 11 & Nov. 6) and Pepperdine University (Oct. 16 & Nov. 15); both 2007 NCAA Tournament participants.

Mixed in-between conference action is also two non-conference matches. Gonzaga will host Eastern Washington University (Oct. 13) and Seattle University (Oct. 22) at the Martin Centre.

The Zags wrap up the regular and conference season hosting the University of Portland on Nov. 22
