SPOKANE, Wash. - Four Gonzaga University women's rowers have garnered Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) honors. Junior Hanna McClintock earned first team All-West Region accolades, while junior Whitney Engle, senior Julie Smetana and senior Kelly Steinhaus were all tabbed for the All-Academic Team.

McClintock became the third women's rower since 2004 to earn first-team All-West Region honors. McClintock, a native of Greenwood Village, Colo., also earned All-West Coast Conference honors and All-WIRA accolades this season.

Engle, a native of Bellevue, Wash., carries a 3.52 GPA in accounting with a minor in French. Smetana, a native of Lansford, N.D., holds a 3.76 GPA in art with a minor in psychology. Steinhaus, who earlier this week earned ESPN The Magazine All-District 8 honors, was named to the CRCA All-Academic team for the second-straight year. She currently holds a 3.87 GPA as a graduate student in leadership and administration.

The All-Region awards recognize the outstanding performances of rowers from each of the five Division I regions, organized into first and second-team selections, while the All-Academic awards recognizes student-athletes with a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher and competed in 75 percent of the teams 2007 spring races. Also, the student-athletes selected were upperclassmen (2nd, 3rd, or 4th year) in terms of eligibility and their head coaches must be good standing members of the CRCA.

A total of 98 student-athletes from five regions were recognized for CRCA All-Region; including 22 from the West Region. A total of 334 student-athletes from 62 different institutions were honored for their academic efforts during the 2008 season.
