Heid Named WCC Player of the Week

Spokane, Wash. - Drew Heid, an outfielder for Gonzaga University, has been named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office Monday. The honor is the twice in as many weeks for Heid, as well as the sixth weekly accolade for a Zag this season. Heid earned the accolade after leading the Zags (28-20, 8-9 WCC) last week with a .558 average. The sophomore with 10-for-17 in seven games, including going 5-for-10 as the Zags swept two-time defending national champion Oregon State University. The native of Goldendale, Wash. also drove in four runs, while scoring seven. Last weekend, in a three-game West Coast Conference series with the University of San Francisco, Heid posted three multiple-hit games. Heid recorded three hits Friday, driving in one run before recording a pair of hits Saturday with a RBI and a run scored. In the series finale on Sunday, Heid recorded two hits to drive in two and score a pair of runs. For the season, the transfer is leading the Bulldogs with a .382 clip, including batting a team-leading .483 in league play. The honor is the second of Heid's career and the sixth weekly accolade for a Bulldog this season. Heid was also named Player of the Week last week. This season, Grant Kveder (March 17), Marcus McKimmy (March 24) and Ryan Wiegand (April 21) have all been named WCC Players of the Week, while Cody Martin was named the WCC Co-Pitcher of the Week on April 14. McKimmy was also named the conference Player of the Month for the month of March. Gonzaga will rest this week for finals and graduation before hosting Lewis-Clark State College May 12 at 6 p.m.
